 This painting is one of  light and dark, the light being the yellow fiekd and the dark of the tree.It is about contrast ,shadow and light, the yeloow and  green could be over powering but the artist  has managed to  control this with  his  unique style

The artist on his way to his work. Van Gogh liked to  be imersed in  work and subject and  be  part of the land
Unfortunatley this painting was deystroyed by fire in the second world war

The cypress tree stands tall  in the field of wheat,Van Gogh's fascination with  the energy of nature is  shown  here and the painting shimmers

The clouds in the sky with swirls posses a a almost demon like qualitty,the whole painting is of movement

St Paul's Hospital St-Remy 1889 Van Gogh

The man by the tree appears to be isolated but given the nature of the bulding this is  not surprising as  it was the place Van Gogh stayed  for a year after his breakdown and according to the doctors notes van Gogh was sufferring from 'acute mania with hallucinations of sight and  hearing as well as epeleptic fits at inferequent intervals'

What better place to be on a hot day than under the shade of tree by a river.

The reflections in the water reflecting the blue of the sky as well as some buildings  on the opposite bank, the boat  by the bak a reminder of how the lady sitting on the bank may have traveled.

 The hat  besides her  indecates she may have   found a cool spot in which to rest

A Road in St Remy 1889 by Van Gogh

Painted in 1889 when van Gogh experienced a nervous breakdown this painting captures the hot dusry road of summer and the lone figuer of the woman  is symbolic perhaps of Van Gogh's own  isolation.

He would wonder the local road at St Remy  and the urge to paint would be upon  him.
There is much energy here as can be seen from the brush strokes depicting the dry earth and bushes by the roadside
